Friday July 2, 2010 Review - Journal CARSON CITY -- To Assemblyman Harvey Munford, it is a matter of fairness.

Nevada gains millions of dollars off boxers at the top of their careers, so it is only fair that the state come up with a plan to at least cover their medical expenses when they are retired and destitute, he said.

Jersey Joe Walcott, Arnold Raymond Cream (January 31, 1914 – February 25, 1994), better known as Jersey Joe Walcott, was a world heavyweight boxing champion. He broke the world's record for the oldest man to win the world's Heavyweight title when he earned it at the age of 37.
Ezzard Mack Charles (July 7, 1921 – May 28, 1975) was a professional boxer and former world heavyweight champion. He holds wins over numerous Hall of Fame fighters in three different weight classes. Charles retired with a record of 93 wins, 25 losses and 1 draw.
When Floyd Mayweather Jr. turned pro in 1996, Roger Mayweather turned his attention away from his boxing career and focused more on being Mayweather Jr.'s trainer. Roger trained Mayweather Jr. until early 1998, when Floyd Mayweather Sr. was released from prison and became Mayweather Jr.'s trainer. However, soon after Mayweather Jr. defeated Gregorio Vargas on March 18, 2000, Mayweather Jr. fired Mayweather Sr. as his trainer and brought Roger back.
Floyd Patterson (January 4, 1935 – May 11, 2006 in Waco, North Carolina) was a 2-time world heavyweight boxing champion. At 21, Patterson was then the youngest man to win the world heavyweight championship and, later, the first to regain it. He had a record of 55 wins 8 losses and 1 draw, with 40 wins by knockout. He won gold for the United States at the 1952 Olympic Games as an amateur middleweight.
Joseph William "Joe" Frazier, known as Smokin' Joe born January 12, 1944), is an Olympic (1964) and World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, active from the mid 1960s to the early 1980s.

Frazier was a popular champion, most famous for his fights against Muhammad Ali, with him winning one, and Ali two.

Salvador Sanchez - Alias: Chava- Born 1959-01-26  Died 1982 -08-12 (Age 23) Hometown Tianguistenco, Mexico .Salvador Sanchez ,A fighter who possessed speed, power, and excellent counter-punching skills.

Sanchez won the WBC Featherweight Championship in 1980 by stopping Danny Lopez in thirteen rounds, becoming the first Mexican since Ruben Olivares to win a world featherweight title. He made nine successful title defenses.

In his highest profile fight, Sanchez stopped the undefeated WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Wilfredo Gomez in eight rounds in 1981. Gomez, who was 32-0-1 (32 KOs), was a 2-1 betting favorite.

September 3, 2010 at the Rio Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. Famous for The World Series of Poker and now home to Mr. Frank Luca’s Crown Boxing.

I once asked the question, “What would boxing have been without Promoter Mr. Don King?” The true measure of course, we do not know. But I would have to say that the
sport of boxing would maybe only have been half of what it has been because Mr. Don King has been such a big part of the sport. And so now I ask the same question regarding Mr. Frank Luca. If not for Mr. Luca, the sport of boxing would be far less of what it is today. Mr. Luca’s Crown Boxing has given fighters the opportunity to show their skills that they otherwise would not have had; plus giving the boxing fans a great night of boxing.
I once posted an article about how I thought Mr. Luca’s plan of putting together a card with 4, 6 and maybe 8 round fights made an exciting night of boxing, Well, we saw it again on September 3rd. The night started with a light welterweight, 4 round bout where we saw Daniel Reece defeat Juan Alcolea by UD. The second bout of the evening was a good, competitive women’s bout, where Crystal Hoy and Mandy Lapoint (in a four crowd pleaser bout) fought to a majority draw. Then came 122 lb. Brian Battease against 121
lb. Alexis Santiago. Santiago was victorious by UD. “It’s time for the leather to fly! This is the main event!” announcer Mr. Jake Gutierrez roared as cruiserweights Henry Namauu and Chad Davis prepared to do battle. In the 3rd round Davis put Namauu on the canvas. But Namauu quickly got back on his feet, and in 1 minute 6 seconds of the 6th round Referee Tony Weeks stopped the bout. Seems he felt Davis was taking too many unanswered blows. Davis and his corner looked none to happy about the stoppage but Referee Tony Weeks is one of the most professional Referees you can find, and for him to stop a bout you can be assured there was due cause. It was a great night of boxing at the Rio’s Crown Nightclub. On your calender mark the date October 22, on which night you will want to attend the next exciting Crown Boxing event at the Crown Night Club at the Rio . Doors open at 6:00 PM first bout at 7:00 PM great seats starting at only $25.00
